Yes
we can now be heard on your cell phone, PDA or other mobile device,
maybe. We have partnered with Virtual Radio at
www.vradio.org. They provide
both a FREE and a pay for software application that will allow you
to listen to our station from you phone. Now it does not work on all
phones, you will need to check their
list to
see if your phone is compatible.
Our suggestion is you try their
free software download and then if everything is sounding and
working right go with their paid software download. No we do not get
anything for the software downloads, just trying to make it easier
for our listeners to hear us all day long.
Which brings me to another thought. If you have one of these
phones that can listen to us AND have an Ipod jack (which are just
input jacks to the car radio) in your car, with the right jacks you
can plug your cell phone into your car radio and Voila .. Our
Generation radio in your car .. NICE!
UPDATE:
I am pleased to announce that I am listening to OGR on my
cellphone as I type! Yep, got a new Blackberry 8330. Checked out
many free applications to stream our station to the phone. Some of
these may work for you and your phone so give them a try. These work
with "smartphones" which use a Java app on them. The ones I am
listing are free and the sites are linked.
First I tried our very own up top Vradio, but alas my phone was
not listed and sure enough the app loaded but locked up the phone.
Next I tried a nice free app called
MFradio.
Now this did work for our station but skipped terribly on my phone.
Consensus is the Blackberry has that problem so try your phone to
see how it works. Next was the
RadioBee.
Very nice app and I was excited, but it also skipped like crazy.
BTW, I did try both high band (not recommended) and low band on both
to no avail. I did try a few others but they either would not load
or not play. An excellent site to download these apps to your
cellphone is at
GetJar.com. Here you can view and try many radio apps, most with
free trails. This brings up a point. When trying to "load" our
station in a player, you must use either
http://s5.viastreaming.net:7070 for the low band or
http://s5.viastreaming.net:7240 for the high. Seems to be a lot of
confusion out there as to what to load in these players. Now I am
pleased to state that I have been listening to our low band
broadcast for 44 minutes on my Blackberry. The old axiom, "you get
what you pay for" is so true. I finally downloaded
BerryTunes
for my phone and after only 10 minutes of listening, paid for it.
Nice sounds, good features and absolutely no skips. I will admit
that when driving I seem to lose the stream about every 10 minutes
but I think that depends on the cell towers around the area. I am
not getting ready to order and pair my phone with the
Motorola T505 and will be able to listen, in the car, on my
stereo and answer the phone hands free. |
